We did make it to Alabama tonight, though it took just slightly longer than expected. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 3:39pm out of Detroit. We got to the airport in plenty of time and were at the gate around 2:15pm. About 10 minutes after we sat down, they announced a gate change... so we walked down a few gates and sat down again.
Around 3:15pm, they come on and say that the plane has some sort of mechanical issue that they're looking into, and they don't know how that'll affect the flight yet. A few minutes later, they said it can't be fixed, so just stay put and they'll let us know what to do. A few minutes after that, they say it may be fixable but they don't know yet. And then finally, around 3:45pm, they tell us to go to a different gate a ways down the terminal, which inconveniently had about half the seating capacity of the previous gate(s).
We boarded the plane by around 4:15 and were taking off just after 4:30 I believe, so it really didn't delay us too long. We got in just fine in Birmingham, got our luggage, packed 3 peoples' luggage into a Chevy Cobalt sedan, and drive the hour to Tuscaloosa, and were in our hotel rooms by 7:45pm (6:45pm Alabama time). We just got back from dinner at the Santa Fe Cattle Company restaurant, which was highly recommended by the lady at the front desk of our hotel. It was ok, no one was overly thrilled with it.
So now I'm going to work on a little more homework before heading to bed, though not for too long - we're meeting for breakfast at 6:30am (CDT, which will feel more like 7:30am) so we can eat and be on the project site 45 min away by 8am. And then we'll bake in the sun all day... yes mother, I'll drink plenty of water! :-)
